Trader vs bettingOct 2026
Head-to-head · 22 Oct 2026 · both fully AI-run · own audience · sold on Whop

Trading is the bigger market, but its tool can’t be sold on Whop after 1 Nov. Betting can, and grows slower.

Neither is a strong $10k/month bet as a fully AI, own-audience consumer product. My estimate is about 5–10% each. TradingView now allows paid indicators only through its invite-only Marketplace. A +EV betting screener can be built by AI and sold on Whop today, but TikTok, YouTube and Meta throttle gambling content, and demand halves in summer. Best move: build the AI betting engine once. Sell it B2B to licensed affiliates and betting media through your contacts, and run a $49 Whop storefront as a cheap side test.

Twelve questions, side by side

AnswerTrading wins on market size, free channels, running cost and buyer value. Betting wins on the deciding row: you can sell it on Whop after 1 November. It also wins where your iGaming contacts help. Building it with AI and no expert is a tie: both are exact maths.

02 · Market on Whop

Trading tools are ~9× bigger, but bettors buy picks, not tools

AnswerWhop buyers spend ~$4.1M/month on trading tools and ~$482k on betting tools. Bettors pour $5.6M/month into picks, but picks need a face and win-rate claims. A betting tool has to win picks buyers with transparent maths.

03 · Fully AI, no expert

Both are maths an AI can write and check, without you

Trader tool

  • AI builds: Pine Script for session killzones, prior-day highs and lows, fair-value gaps and structure breaks. These are exact rules. Order blocks are subjective, so skip them.
  • Checked without an expert: automated tests, bar-replay checks for repainting, and cross-checks against the top free scripts.
  • Catch: TradingView’s AI Copilot (Sep 2026) and LuxAlgo’s coding agent let buyers build their own. The moat is distribution, not code.

Betting +EV tool

  • AI builds: take a sharp price, remove the margin to get a fair probability, and compare it with soft-book prices. That gives +EV bets, prop edges and line moves. No handicapping is needed.
  • Checked without an expert: closing-line value is a public, objective scoreboard; every flagged bet can be graded automatically.
  • Catch: Pinnacle closed its public API (Jul 2025), so the sharp line comes from a paid feed. Live arbitrage needs 2-second data, which is out of reach. Stay pre-game.

04 · Your own audience

Trading content can go viral; betting content gets throttled

AnswerThe faceless trading leaders grew on TradingView, YouTube and TikTok. Betting leaders grew on X, and their TikToks stay tiny even after hundreds of videos, because TikTok keeps gambling promotion off the For You feed. A betting AI content engine must run on X, Discord and SEO pages instead.

05 · Money

Same target, different leaks

AnswerFor $10k/month profit, the trader tool needs ~342 paying members at $39 (12% churn), which means ~41 new a month. The betting tool needs ~280 at $49 (15% churn, plus ~$400/month for odds data), which means ~42 new a month. Betting loses about half its demand every summer.

Assumptions: 12% Whop fees + affiliate share, $1/member running cost, $30 to win a member. Churn is assumed: no betting or indicator vendor publishes it.

Betting affiliate income: real, but not for a FOP

  • US licensed states: ~$185–228 per new depositor (listed affiliates’ blended figure). Licence or approval needed in 14 states. Needs a company.
  • UK: up to 35% revenue share, but the market is shrinking (duty 21%→40%, Apr 2026).
  • Offshore crypto books (Stake-style): they bar the US, UK and Ontario themselves. Promoting them kills licensed partners, and in some US states it is a crime.
  • Ukraine-facing: closed. Bloggers can’t advertise gambling; fines are ~$115k.

06 · Rules

Sell maths, never promises

Trader tool

  • Levels and zones the user sets up: low–medium risk (publisher exclusion; impersonal software).
  • Buy/sell alerts on futures look like trading advice: US courts treated “follow the signals” software as advice (CFTC v. Vartuli); the UK says software signals are generally advice.
  • No win rates, no “AI predicts”, no income claims (FTC, Meta, TikTok).

Source: 17 CFR 4.14 (CTA exemptions) · FCA PERG 8.30

Betting tool

  • Sell the screener and the maths, not win rates. Typical-results disclosures (FTC), no fake or AI testimonials.
  • 21+ and responsible-gambling messages; never target Ukraine; Whop bans gambling that breaks state or federal law.
  • Ukraine: the FOP group 3 gambling exclusion and crypto income need an accountant before launch.

Source: Whop seller terms

Owner decisions before either launch1) An accountant confirms the FOP can take this income (tool sales; betting-adjacent). 2) The Claude plan used for commercial AI operations: a parallel session flagged that consumer Max terms may not cover business use. 3) A Georgia or Cyprus company only if you want sportsbook affiliate deals or scale past ~$18.7k/month gross.
07 · Plan

Build one AI odds engine, sell it two ways, decide at day 45

Do thisSkip the trader tool on Whop. Build the betting +EV engine once. Sell it B2C on Whop, grown via X, a free Discord and daily +EV pages. In parallel, show it to 10 licensed affiliates or betting media through your contacts as a white-label widget and content feed. Keep whichever pays first; kill the other.
Days 0–3owner, ~3 h

  • Accountant check (FOP + betting-tool income)
  • Whop KYC, $1 test sale and payout
  • X and Discord accounts; The Odds API key ($119/mo)

Days 1–14AI

Build the engine

  • Pre-game +EV and prop screener vs a sharp reference: NFL, NBA, NHL, college football
  • Auto-graded closing-line-value scoreboard, public and honest
  • Whop store: free daily top-3 edges, then Pro at $49/mo with a 7-day trial
AI
Days 7–45AI + 5 min/day

B2C audience

  • X: 5–10 posts a day with edges, line moves and results, plus a pinned scoreboard
  • Daily +EV pages and free calculators (SEO); free Discord with alerts
  • Whop affiliates at 40%; no TikTok push (gambling is off the For You feed)
AIOwner approves posts at first
Days 10–30owner, 5–10 intros

B2B test via your contacts

  • Offer licensed affiliates and betting media a white-label +EV widget plus an auto-written daily edges feed
  • Price test: $500–2,000/month per site
  • Goal: 2 paid pilots or written “yes at $X”
Owner introsAI demo + docs
Day 45gate

Decide

  • B2C keeps going if: ≥40 paying members, refunds <10%, cost per member < first-month net
  • B2B keeps going if: ≥2 paying pilots
  • Neither → stop. Only the cost of data and a few hours is lost.
Kill rules
Trader tool: only as a slow side bet, off WhopThe only legal paid route is TradingView’s invite-only Marketplace: monthly billing, PayPal payouts. To get invited you first grow followers with free open-source scripts. AlgoAlpha took ~23 months to reach 99k followers. That is a 2-year play, not a 90-day test.
